Travellers Palm

~ refreshment for sojourners on the path to the Kingdom ~

Travellers Palm is a unique tree. The scientific name for this tree is Ravenala madagascariensis. Unlike other trees, travellers palm is a majestic upright tree with the giant leaves lined like a fan. It can grow up to 30m height. Although it is called a palm, this tree is more closely related to the banana tree than any palm family. Its flowers are similar to the birds of paradise and the fruit has a distinctive bright blue colour.

How does this tree get this unusual name? One of the stories is that this tree gives refreshment to tired travellers. At the end of each leaf blade is the hollow stem. Each leaf is able to direct rain water or dew water and guide it into the hollow stem. Each stem is said to be able to contain up to a quart of water, which can be used as an emergency water supply for tired travellers.

Another story about the orientation of this tree. The tree will orient themselves with the first and last leaf blades pointed to the north and south direction. Thus, the flat side of the palm faces east and west, enabling all the leaves to benefit most from the sun light. Thus, it is said that travellers can use the tree to orient the direction of their travel.

Because of the refreshment and direction of Traveller’s Palm given to the travellers, this site is dedicated to bring refreshment and alignment to sojourners; sitting at Jesus’ feet, drinking refreshing water that will never thirst and re-aligning of oneself back to His kingdom, while journeying on earth.
